What is the official Jewish Perspective on Psychedelics and other mind altering substances according to the Torah? Rabbi Yaron Reuven brings logic and Torah proofs from the Chovot HaLevavot and Rav Moshe Feinstein zt"l on why recreational drugs like marijuana and psychedelics are forbidden.
Rav Moshe Feinstein says, drugs alter a person's Da'at to where they can no longer properly serve HaShem. Whether it's using drugs or falling for heretics like Manis Friedman, Rabbeinu Bachya says, most people should be able to understand these are forbidden on their own just using their own Da'at by investigating the issues in the Torah and using common sense. And if they failed to use the mind HaShem gave them and chose to be lazy, they will be punished.
