Rav Ovadia Yosef Learning Torah In Poverty
Rabbi Yaron Reuven tells a story about how Rav Ovadia Yosef zt"l became the Gadol HaDor by fulfilling a Mishnah in Pirkei Avot. Rabbi Yonatan says, whoever fulfills the Torah despite
poverty will ultimately fulfill it in wealth, and whoever neglects the Torah because of
wealth will ultimately neglect it in poverty. Rav Ovadia would sacrifice for Torah through great poverty, fulfilling this Mishnah and eventually became a great Chamam and the Torah Luminary of the generation.
