Rabbi Yaron Reuven brings the Rambam in Hilchot Yesodei HaTorah 6:8 (Foundations of The Torah) on when it's a mitzvah to burn a Torah Scroll and when the halacha is just to bury it. Plus a history lesson that connects to our Torah portion... The week of Parashat Chukat in the year 1242 in the gregorian calendar, enemies of the Jews burned 24 wagon loads of Sifrei Torah, the Talmud, and other holy books in response to losing a debate. Why would HaKadosh Baruch Hu allow such a thing to occur? The answer is as always, is in the weekly Torah portion.
