The Sages teach that when your children ask why we celebrate Pesach, you're suppose to hold up the matzah and maror, and say, "It's because of this that HaShem took us out of Egypt." Rabbi Yaron Reuven says, the most important part of Pesach is telling the story of the Exodus. It's important to know how the story of the Haggadah to teach your children, and if you don't have a family, to teach yourself. Gadolim would even tell the Pesach Haggadah to themselves at the Seder.
