This Rabbi Is The Biggest Zionist in The World

Rabbi Yaron Reuven has officially declared himself to be the biggest Zionist! Wait, what?? Rabbi Reuven says, if being a Zionist means a love for the Jewish people and the Land of Israel, there is no bigger Zionist in the world. The problem is Zionism means different things to different people.

What is Zionism?

Secular Political Zionism: If Zionism is defined by the secular political ideology of Israel (such as the politics of Benjamin Netanyahu), Rabbi Reuven says, he is completely anti-Zionist. He says, this political system is an enemy of God that actively fights against the Torah and yeshivot. He notes that original Zionists like Theodor Herzl were focused on land politics rather than Torah or even the Jewish people, with Herzl hating the Torah so much that he converted to christianity.

Spiritual and Humanitarian Zionism: If Zionism is defined as a deep love for the Jewish people, supporting those who respect the Torah, and believing Jews have a right to live in and defend the land of Israel, Rabbi Reuven says, "I'm the biggest Zionist in the world". He strongly asserts that anyone who opposes the Jewish people's right to live and defend themselves is fundamentally anti-Semitic.

The "Confused" Middle Ground: This third group, often consisting of Modern Orthodox Jews, who strictly practice Judaism (keeping Shabbat and kosher) but also support the secular political positions of Israel. This demographic is a "confused bunch" who sometimes compromise Torah laws for the sake of their political beliefs. And this is a problem.

Ultimately, Rabbi Reuven concludes that he is simultaneously a Zionist and an anti-Zionist, depending strictly on which definition is being used. He emphasizes that his true loyalty lies not with secular politics, which he despises, but with God, the Torah, and the well-being of the Jewish people.
