The Purim Secret of Baruch Mordechai. This inspiring Purim story recounts the incredible life of Baruch Mordechai, a boy born to a student of the Chatam Sofer who grew up unable to understand a single word of Torah, or so they thought. Despite his apparent ignorance, he possessed exceptional middot and spent his life working as a humble, yet very honest water carrier. For 70 years, he carefully hid his true nature until a Purim celebration, where the Rav mi Lublin gave him a very large cup of wine that revealed his secret: he was actually a brilliant Torah scholar who knew the entire Gemara by heart and was one of the 36 hidden Tzadikim. Rabbi Yaron Reuven says, the most important lesson of this story is that the ultimate goal of learning Torah is not honor, but perfecting our character traits and growing closer to HaShem.
