Rabbi Yaron Reuven gives important lessons from the story of Ruth, which is traditionally read during Shavuot, using her journey to highlight profound Jewish principles regarding faith, wisdom, and the distinction between human effort and Divine outcomes.
Main Lessons:
The Ultimate Convert: Ruth the Moabite is the ultimate female convert, a billionaire's daughter who chose to leave her unimaginable wealth and join Am Yisrael. Although Naomi told her to return home three times—which established the custom of rejecting converts three times—Ruth steadfastly declared that Naomi's God and people were now her own.
Effort vs. Outcome: A central lesson of the video is that people are only responsible for their effort, such as learning, praying, and working. The ultimate outcome—whether that involves wealth, physical attributes, or having children—is strictly God's business and is decided entirely by HaShem.
The Pursuit of Wisdom: The Rabbi explains that HaShem grants wisdom to those who already have it, because possessing it proves they actively desire it and will know what to do with it. Fools, on the other hand, choose their ignorance; they focus on trivial worldly matters like sports salaries instead of Torah.
The Miraculous Lineage: God ensures that no one loses by doing a mitzvah or fulfilling His will. Although Boaz was 80 years old and died the day after he and Ruth were married and intimate, God changed nature against all odds. From that single union came the lineage of MaShiach ben David.
