Why Do We Cry on Tisha B'Av

The three week period between the 17th of Tammuz and Tisha B'Av is referred to by our Sages as “Between the Straits,” based on the verse (Eicha [Lamentations] 1:3), “All of her enemies overtook her between the straits.” A time where Am Yisrael has suffered many tragedies including the destruction of the First and Second Temples and major events during the Holocaust.
